Kiese Laymon is a black southern writer, born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. He is currently an Associate Professor of English, Creative Writing and co-director of Africana Studies at Vassar College.

In 2013, Laymon has 2 books coming: a highly anticipated novel entitled Long Division and a nonfiction book named for his celebrated Gawker essay, “How To Kill Yourself And Others Slowly In America”.
