Hakim Green Hosts 24 Hours of Peace Outdoor Event in New Jersey

@RasJBaraka presents #24HrsofPeaceI attended a KRS-ONE show at SOBs recently and was surprised to see Hakim Green of Channel Live onstage.  He performed a song with KRS, who described how they first met, back when Hakim was teaching 8th grade students.  Now, Hakim is teaching outside of the classroom, in the streets of New Jersey where violence has had a grip for too long.  In 2010, twelve people were killed in just a 24 hour period in New Jersey.  Since then, Councilman Ras Baraka, has put together an annual  “24 Hours of Peace, Occupy Clinton Avenue” event in Newark, with host Hakim Green.

24 Hours of Peace is an outdoor cultural event aimed at addressing violence through the performing arts. The overall message is to say “Time Out” to the community and to have 24 hours without any violent acts.

“It’s a small step in our ongoing commitment to increasing the PEACE!! We are Hip Hop and our ethic is Peace, Love, Unity and Safely, having fun.”  says Host, Hakim Green of Channel Live.  2011 was our inaugural year for the 24 Hours of Peace Concert.

This year the entertainment roster includes artists such as Co Host, Tap Dance King, Savion Glover, DJ Antoine Qua of 107.5 WBLS, Rah Digga, former First Lady of The Flip Mode Squad, Hip Hop Greats, Treach of Naughty by Nature, Do It All of Lords of the Underground, Jersey Block Entertainment and a host of local artists.

To get to the event, take NJ Transit to Newark Penn Station then walk to Clinton Ave at Treacy Ave. Peace and love!
